Force 38 (see if you can figure out how many ships were involved) and extensive at-sea war
games that would last for seven months!
March 11, 1947 - Search for downed pilot
and then enter Pearl Harbor
March 24, 1947 - A day in Maui but I don't
think anybody got ashore, pity.

May 6, 1947 - Davy Jones, Royal Scribe
reported aboard and handed out supoenas to all Pollywogs
May 18, 1947 - Arrive at Woolloomooloo Bay
and welcome 1,031 visitors
June 6, 1947 - Visit a historic island -
Truk in the Carolines
June 12, 1947 - Arrive at Guam and go into
drydock for inspection of port shaft & propeller vibrations
June 17, 1947 - In Guam's Drydock in the
morning and Saipan, Marianas in the afternoon
June 27, 1947 - A dreadful accident - a
lifeline turnbuckle parts and three of our shipmates fall overboard - MM2 Lymon Overstreet
and S1 Phillip G. McClellan are lost
June 28, 1947 - Memorial services are held
in honor of our lost shipmates
July 1, 1947 - Enter Sumner's former area
of operations - Manila, Philippine Islands
July 11, 1947 - Another busy day, Saipan
in the morning and Guam in the afternoon
August 14, 1947 - Sumner's first visit to
one of our favorite ports - Yokosuka, Japan
August 29, 1947 - Sumner adds another
ribbon with time in Tsingtao, China (now known as Qingdao)
