Other Memories

Boiler Inspection Device (BID) invented by Ed to detect raw fuel during inspections in order to prevent boiler explosions such as one that occurred in 1981.  Over 1,000 were put in service and there were no subsequent explosions.  The units served the Fleet until 1992.

The 5"/38s were not big enough for Ed so he went into the Army and played with 8" guns.
Where it all began, Ed is in the row above the San Diego Flag, 3rd from the right, October 1 1965 Ed receiving his 35 year pin with the Department of Defense January 22 2003

Many thanks to Ed for scanning and forwarding these pieces of our history
