Other Memories

Boiler Inspection Device (BID) invented by Ed to detect raw fuel during inspections in order to prevent boiler explosions such as one that occurred in 1981.  Over 1,000 were put in service and there were no subsequent explosions.  The units served the Fleet until 1992.

The 5"/38s were not big enough for Ed so he went into the Army and played with 8" guns.
