SEA CONNECTIONS / SEA CHESTS
Sea chests are openings in the ship's hull below the water line. They vary in size and shape and serve as in-takes or discharges between the ship and its sea valves for the drawing in or expulsion of seawater for the ship's cooling system. Some sea chests are equipped with blow-out holes through which blasts of air or steam help to clear any obstructions to water flow.
