- Begin the year tied up to Pier Two in San Diego

- Our normal activity for the year - day OPS, OUT in the morning and IN in the afternoon
April 28, 1948
- More day OPS this time with the USS Lofberg (DD-759)
May 27, 1948
- Still the same routine - OUT and IN
June 12, 1948
- Change of Command ceremony as Captain Mayberry relieves Captain Edrington
June 14, 1948
- Underway for Puget Sound and an overhaul period
June 18, 1948
- A little testing and then tie up at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton
June 22, 1948
- Offload all our ammunition and get ready for all the yard workers
July 12, 1948
- Welcome a slew of new shipmates and pull into the drydock
August 13, 1948
- Finally finish with the drydock and get our feet wet
September 2, 1948
- Out of the shipyard for sea trials
September 15, 1948
- Getting close to be out of here as we rearm the ship
September 21, 1948
- Back home at Pier Two all fixed up and ready to go
October 6, 1948
- Back to the grind of day OPS in the fog
October 11, 1948
- The Division spends yet another day in day OPS off of San Diego
November 1, 1948
- Out for OPS playing with the USS Segundo (SS-398)
The rest of the year is spent deciding if we want to move to the Atlantic Fleet
