1955 Log Book

• January 1, 1955 - The traditional mid-watch verse by LTJG R. L. Moonan
• January 4, 1955 - Pull into Fort Mifflin in preparation for going into the yards
• January 21, 1955 - Into the Drydock at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard
• February 15, 1955 - The hull is clean and pretty so we leave the Drydock
• March 19, 1955 - Out into the Delaware river for work progress trials
• March 22, 1955 - Change of Command ceremony as Captain Haisten relieves Captain O'Rourke
• April 7, 1955 - Done with our overhaul, load ammunition and head home
• April 8, 1955 - Back home alongside the first of it's class - the USS Gearing
• April 13, 1955 - Virginia Capes OPS and we race to the collision of the SS Ciudad de Bogota and the SS Bahia de Matanzas
• April 20, 1955 - More OPS off the Capes with our sister, the USS Moale
• April 30, 1955 - What follows every overhaul with the Atlantic Fleet? GITMO.
• May 2, 1955 - DesDiv 161 arrives in the tropical paradise of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
• June 4, 1955 - A typical day of what is called Refresher Training and firing at Culebra Island
• June 13, 1955 - One more drill and we head home
• June 16, 1955 - Back home at the Convoy Escort piers in Norfolk
• July 12, 1955 - Underway with TG 40.2 and the USS Wisconsin
• July 26, 1955 - We make it across the pond and pull into Bergen, Norway
• August 4, 1955 - Our next stop in this tour - Stockholm, Sweden
• August 15, 1955 - OPS as we cross the pond again and watch the drone sink
• August 25, 1955 - Who knows why but we are back in GITMO !
• September 2, 1955 - The Task Group breaks up and we are back at NOB
• September 18, 1955 - We practice the Emergency Sortie Plan with DesFlot 4
• September 27, 1955 - It's ASW practice with the USS Argonaut
• October 4, 1955 - More bubblehead training with the USS Grampus  and the USS Sirago
• October 11, 1955 - Guess we need more practice as we are back out with the Sirago
• November 1, 1955 - Back to our birth place and tie up in New York, NY
• November 3, 1955 - The party is over and we head back to the Fleet
• November 16, 1955 - Getting tired of all these sewerpipes, this time the USS Runner
• November 22, 1955 - Can't believe it, they found a boat we had not chased, the USS Sea Leopard
• December 2, 1955 - A change of pace as we work with the Airedales on the USS Valley Forge
• December 7, 1955 - Last OPS of the year chasing the Valley Forge
• Spend the rest of the year with visions of bubbleheads dancing in our heads
