- GITMO complete, next NGFS training at Culebra Island, Puerto Rico

- Quick fuel stop at San Juan, Puerto Rico before heading home

- Take part in the Cuban missle crisis as part of the blockade operating with the USS Okinawa (LPH-3) and the USS Thetis Bay (LPH-6)
November 4, 1962
- USS Zellars (DD-777) and Sumner chase a submarine contact
November 10, 1962
- Still working the blockade now with the USS Lexington (CVA-16)
November 13, 1962
- Operating close enough that we run in and out of Mayport many times for fuel and water
November 24, 1962
- Blockade still going and now operating with the USS Saratoga (CVA-60)
November 30, 1962
- Blockade operations complete, return to Mayport
Other than one day of OPS we spend December resting at home
