1973 Log Book

January 1, 1973 - The traditional mid-watch verse by LTJG Jon E. VanAmringe
January 24, 1973 - Underway for some training and a visit to the Naval Academy
January 31, 1973 - We may be getting old but it's back to sea for more training
February 6, 1973 - Back into the Bay again for more drills
March 12, 1973 - Underway as we head for Norfolk
March 13, 1973 - Back to our old haunt, remember keep off the grass!
March 15, 1973 - Underway for Yorktown to unload our weapons for the last time
March 17, 1973 - Head back to the Reserve Center one more time
April 5, 1973 - We say goodbye to Baltimore and head for Philadelphia Navy Yard
April 11, 1973 - Captain Hollenbach leaves us and Captain Bresnahan assumes command
May 19, 1973 - Armed Forces Day and we welcome 1,232 guests
May 22, 1973 - We head into the Bay to train the Iranian Navy
June 11, 1973 - Off to Norfolk for one last goodbye
June 21, 1973 - After changing course and speed a thousand times we are back in Philly
July 10, 1973 - For the last time as a unit of the United States Navy we head for blue water
August 15, 1973 - A very sad day, the gallant old lady of the seas is decommissioned after 29 years, 6 months and 20 days of faithful service.................Remember her and the over 5,000 men who helped her serve!
